Wanna become a wedding planner? – part 2

Being a wedding planner is not a job – it’s a calling. But, how does it look like to plan weddings 24/7? Last month, our wedding planner expert Martina Rakić gave an interview for a Croatian lifestyle magazine StoryBook where she answered a lot of questions on that subject.

We have already posted the first part of the interview last week, and the rest follows:

SB: WHAT IS THE ROLE OF A WEDDING COORDINATOR? WHAT SKILLS ARE REQUIRED TO RUN A WEDDING?

MR: Wedding planning business requires certain skill that are partially natural and partially learned. Learned skills are very important if you want to be an independent wedding planner and make a career out of it. Besides superb organization skills, it is very important that a wedding coordinator has great social skills, as he needs to communicate with different types of people and mediate between them more than often.

Wedding coordinator is informed about every little details that create a wedding in a perfect event for couple and their guests and is the key person responsible for the day to run smoothly as planned. As a wedding day coordinator I need to anticipate any problem that might occur, and therefore it is important not to lose focus during any planning or set-up stage.

On a wedding day my tasks include greeting and directing vendors, oversee the proper set-up, follow the timeline, answer guests` questions… In general, my job is to make sure that all items arranged with the couple are implemented.

SB: WHAT ARE THE ADVANTAGES OF BEING A WEDDING PLANNER?

MR: Wedding planning and coordination is creative and dynamic job that includes lots of travelling. It is a perfect choice for people`s person who are detailed orientated and love challenges. Every couple is different and every wedding is a new experience. A great advantage is that there are no big investments as in some other start-up companies. The main initial investment should be education in this field.

For me, the greatest award is to be an important part of such an emotional and life changing moment of every couple.

SB: ARE THERE ANY UNEXPECTED SITUATIONS?

MR: As a wedding planner and coordinator I need to be prepared to handle with great amount of stress and take care of the whole wedding process, including all the little details. There are numerous difficulties to overcome, which gets easier with the experience.

Over the years in wedding planning business, there were quite a few of unexpected situations: I had vendors calling me they missed a ferry or were stuck at border, a baker who had a cake disaster and one time even the officiant didn`t show up. My job is to take care of the situation and find a quick and suitable solution, with a final goal not to upset the couple under any circumstances. In most cases, we resolve the problem with our long term partners and that is why both me and my team invest a lot if those long term relationships.

Our personal and business moto is to make sure the couple experience the wedding day of their dream!
